Fail and Fail Again

Many people are so afraid of failing that they often don’t take risks. They play it safe and proceed along the path most trodden. They settle into their routines: sleep, work, gym, dinner, sleep, work… well you get the idea. Their life becomes mundane and comfortable.

STOP!

The best times of my life have been when I’ve said ‘yes’ to something I’m not sure about and taken risks even though they have instilled me with fear. After studying abroad in Australia and having the mindset to say ‘YES!’ to every opportunity that presented itself, I have changed my entire way of thinking in America. It doesn’t matter that you’re still in your hometown or someplace you’ve been for years. Get out there and take risks; make yourself feel uncomfortable. It can even be as simple as taking on a new project at work that you’re not sure about. Try your best and I’m sure you’ll be impressed with the results.

I’ll end with a quote from one of my favorites:

“Pick the day. Enjoy it – to the hilt. The day as it comes. People as they come… The past, I think, has helped me appreciate the present – and I don’t want to spoil any of it by fretting about the future.” -Audrey Hepburn

  1. It’s the same for the things you hate doing. We’ve heard it all. I hate going to: study, work, classes. In the end the reward is worth more than the struggle. The same goes with Jill’s point – take a risk, stick with it, and enjoy the results.

  2. Great writing Jillian. I would agree with your opinion completely. In fact I jst got back from a trip to South Africa teaching entreprenurship in which we drilled into the students was “The only failure is failure to try”. Taking risks is part of every day life, and if its not in yours already then get some :)
